Dr. Farmer obtained a Bachelor of
Science degree in Psychology from Texas A&M University. She received a
Master of Science degree in Biology and a Master of Arts degree in Behavioral
Science from the University of Houston at Clear Lake. During medical school at the University of Texas
Medical Branch, Dr. Farmer served on the Honors Education Committee and received
the Mu Delta Honorary Medical Society Senior Medical Student of the Year award.
During her psychiatry residency at UTMB, she received the Academic Excellence
Award in both her third and fourth years. She completed a six-month fellowship
in Psychopharmacology and Biological Psychiatry at the University of Texas
Health Science Center in San Antonio before opening her practice in Austin.
About My Practice
I specialize in the diagnosis
and medication management of mood, anxiety, and eating disorders. I
recognize the importance of a psychiatric work-up to rule out any medical
conditions causing or contributing to psychiatric symptoms. I also recognize
the importance of working closely with a patient’s therapist in order to
coordinate treatment. My appointments usually consist of an approximately
45-minute initial evaluation followed by medication check-ups every one to
four months depending on response to treatment.
My practice is different from that of many
other doctors in that I do not file insurance for patients. Patients
will need to pay in full, but in many cases may be reimbursed by their
insurance company. We can provide receipts.
There are many benefits for me to run my practice this way.
First of all, because I don’t have to send in a diagnosis and
information about a patient to the insurance company, confidentiality is
ensured. Secondly, the reduced
paperwork on my part means that I have more time to keep up with the
literature regarding the latest research and treatments.
Finally, because I see fewer patients than most doctors, it doesn’t
usually take as long to get an appointment with me.
My fee for initial evaluation
is $300.00 (cash or credit card) and $75.00 for follow-up appointments. If you have any questions or wish to make an appointment,
