


L.Sue Hoffman, MSSW, LCSW, LMFT
Sue is a native of St. Louis, Missouri, who received her Bachelor of Science degree from Southern Methodist University and her Master of Science in Social Work degree from the University of Texas at Austin. She is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist. She is an approved Supervisor for candidates seeking licensing in Social Work. She is a Certified EMDR Therapist, a Consultant for EMDRIA and a Facilitator for the EMDR Institute.
Sue's current practice includes work with adults and adolescents in the areas of: depression, bipolar disorder, anxiety disorders and trauma. She also has extensive experience with issues of loss and grief, separation and divorce, sibling, foster care and adoption issues, anger management, life balance, visual impairment and blindness, gender identity, developmental delay and spiritual development.
Her background includes teaching and therapeutic wilderness camping. She was a counselor in the pilot trips for Girls Adventure Trails in Dallas, Texas, while a high school Biology and German teacher in Tyler, Texas. Following graduate school she was employed as a social worker for the Texas Youth Commission providing both direct services to the youth and researching and writing TYC's Wilderness Camping Program Proposal. While residing in Brownwood, she originated and developed the Social Service Department for the Brownwood Community Hospital and received JCAH approval.
After returning to Austin, she was employed by the Austin State School, Community Services Department. While there, she led the development of a day training program in Llano for developmentally delayed adults. Later, she served as a consultant to social workers in the MHMR outreach centers and also developed the Austin State School Abuse Prevention and Education program. After eight years of consultation with Austin State School and Texas Commission for the Blind, Sue began her private practice with Austin Psychotherapy Associates where she continues providing psychotherapy, consultation and supervision.
In her leisure time, Sue enjoys camping, reading, traveling, canoeing, bicycling and community and church service. Her husband of 38 years is a retired administrator who now enjoys teaching. They are the parents of two college graduates who are employed and living independently, a dog, a cat and 15 tropical fish.
